Martín Weber

 

“My parents weren’t part of any armed resistance group against the dictatorships they suffered under, they were instead part of a conscientious opposition. It took me four decades to understand why I was born in Chile, and forty years to accept that I had been born in exile.” Martin Weber. Argentinian (b. in Chile1968)

Weber is a multimedia artist who studied at the University of Buenos Aires and the ICP in NY where he was awarded a scholarship (1992/93). “Map of Dreams Latin American”, his directorial debut, has won the Documentary Award at CINELATINO, Rencontres de Toulouse 2020, and Honorable Mention by the Oficial Jury at the Brasilia International Film Festival / BIFF 2020. In 2019 Weber was awarded by CRAF the International Award in Photography, in 2018 received the Magnum Foundation Fund, in 2016 the Grand Prize on Installations and Alternative Media at the National Salon in Argentina. He also received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation (1998), Prince Claus (2004), the Silver Eye Award (2008), No Strings Foundation (2005), Hasselblad (2001/1999), the Klemm Foundation First Prize (1999), Fondo Nacional de las Artes (2016/2014/1996). Artist in residence at MAC and D21 (Santiago, Chile / 2014), CPW (Woodstock / 2004), Light Work (Syracuse / 2002), IASPIS (Stockholm /1998).

“Map of Dreams Latin American”- the film- received support from EFICINE of Mexico and Sørfond of Norway in 2016, and declared in 2017, 2015 and 2014 of cultural interest by the City of Buenos Aires, received in 2013 the support INCAA.

In 2011 his book “Echoes of the Interior” was nominated in Paris Photo in the top 100 photo books published between 1997-2011. RM co-published his second book “Map of Latin American Dreams”.
